This policy explains what data Knotty (the "App"), a connect-the-threads puzzle game, collects and how it is used. Knotty does not require you to create an account and does not collect your name, email address, or any other personal identifier to let you play. Signing in for the optional cloud save is your choice (section 4).
1Information stored on your device
Your progress, settings, in-game currency and preferences (e.g. sound, haptics, animated scenery, letters-on-dots) are saved locally on your device only, using standard app-storage APIs. This data:
- stays on your device unless you sign in for the cloud save (section 4) — we have no servers of our own;
- is removed automatically if you uninstall the App or clear its storage from your device settings;
- is not linked to your identity in any way.
The game statistics described in section 3 are about how the game is played; they are not your save, and your save is never sent with them.
2Advertising
Knotty shows ads (banner, interstitial and optional rewarded-video) through Google AdMob. To deliver and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, Google's Mobile Ads SDK may collect technical and device information such as your advertising identifier, IP address, device attributes and general (non-precise) location, and interactions with ads. This processing is done by Google, not by us, under Google's own privacy terms:
Rewarded ads are always something you choose to watch (for example, to double coins or get a free hint) — the App never shows a video ad without you tapping to start it.
Where required by law (for example, for users in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), a consent form — provided by Google's User Messaging Platform — is shown before any ad is requested, so you can choose whether personalised ads may be shown to you. Where a consent form is required, you can reopen it from Settings > Privacy > Ad privacy choices. You can also reset your advertising ID in your phone's system settings.
3Game statistics and crash reports
To see where the game is too hard or too easy, to fix crashes and to tune prices and rewards, Knotty uses Google Firebase (Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Remote Config), provided by Google:
- Game statistics: what happens in play, such as levels started, finished or left, the time and moves they took, help used, coins earned and spent, ads offered and watched, purchases (product and price) and screens opened, with the device model, operating-system and app version, language and country (from the IP address; never precise location). They are tied to a random identifier Firebase creates for this installation, never to your name, email or store account.
- Crash reports: when the App hits an error, what failed and where, with the device model, operating-system and app version and a random installation identifier.
- Game settings: the App asks Firebase for updated settings (such as prices and ad limits); that request carries a random installation identifier.
Nothing is sent before Google's consent check (the same one as for ads) has run. Where a consent form is required (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), game statistics are sent only under Google's consent mode with the storage of identifiers denied, and crash reports are not sent. Google keeps game statistics for at most 14 months and crash reports for 90 days. Knotty has no third-party trackers beyond Google's and RevenueCat's services described here.
4Cloud save (optional)
In Settings you can sign in with Google or Apple to keep your progress in the cloud and carry it to another phone. Sign-in goes through Firebase Authentication and your progress is stored in Cloud Firestore, both provided by Google:
- Account: the identifier Google or Apple gives for your account, your email address (Apple lets you hide it behind a relay address) and the name on the account, kept by Firebase Authentication to recognise you.
- Your saved progress: the same data as in section 1 (progress, settings, in-game currency), with when it was saved and from which kind of phone, readable only by your signed-in account.
Signing out stops the cloud save and leaves both copies where they are. To delete your cloud save and your account, use Settings > Progress > Delete cloud save, or write to us (section 9); your progress on the phone stays.
5In-app purchases
Knotty offers optional purchases: removing ads, and packs of coins and hints. Every purchase is paid through the Google Play Store (or the Apple App Store) with the account signed in to it. Your card and payment details stay with Google or Apple; Knotty never sees or stores them.
To check that a purchase is genuine and to restore it on a new phone, Knotty uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service. RevenueCat receives a random identifier created for this installation (not your name, email or Google account), the store's record of each purchase (product, transaction ID, price, currency and store country), and basic technical information (device model, operating-system and app version, IP address). It uses this only to validate and record purchases for Knotty, under its own terms:
If you reinstall Knotty or move to a new phone, use Restore purchases in the shop to get back anything bought with the same store account.
6Children's privacy
Knotty is a general-audience puzzle game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us using the details below and we will act on it.
7Your choices
- Turn off ad personalisation / reset your advertising ID in your device's system settings (Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy → Tracking).
- Manage Google's ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
- Delete all locally saved game data at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing its storage from your device's App info screen.
- Delete your cloud save and its account from Settings > Progress.
8Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the update date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
